Your Marriage Type

This item was filled under [ Marriage ]

A few weeks ago, in our Couples’ Fellowship at church had a one day seminar where a lot of things were discussed. But what still stands out after all these weeks were the statements below which I wish all married (or intending to be married people) would seriously consider. The issue under debate is whether a marriage should be a contract or a covenant.

  1. A covenant is based on trust between the concerned parties. A contract is based on distrust.
  2. A covenant is based on unlimited responsibility. A contract is based on limited liability.
  3. A covenant cannot be broken if new circumstances occur. A contract can be voided by mutual consent.

There you have it. Courtesy of our Senior Pastor. Share this with as many friends as possible (use the share this feature below). Let’s get word out as we work towards doing our part in making better marriages.

Have a great weekend.

Sunga the points raised in your blog are very interesting. Of course you do not take the risk of giving your voice to it. But my view is that marriage is a covenant. I think the bible is clear on that:

“Because the Lord has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.” (Malachi 2:14)

These prenuptial agreements have become necessary because we have departed from the truth. May be this article can shed more light on the matter:

In short marriage is a sacred trust and must not be handled flippantly. Or am I sounding too radical these days?
