What Money Is

This is a listing of what I have learned money to be. Money is
  1. A Servant. There are things that you can send money to do for you. I really do not like washing, so I send the washing machine. It is tiresome to drive to places so get some airtime and call up the people I want to meet and save time. Some times money represents me at weddings...
  2. Important. Today's world is very difficult to imagine without money. Money plays major roles in relief work, printing Bibles, finances weddings, wars and divorce. It pays for school fees, travel and food. You name it, money is so important. Anyone who says it isn't obvious has never gone a few months without it.
  3. Neutral. It has no personality. It does not mind whether it is in the hands of the rich or poor, righteous or wicked, young or old, smuggler or cop. Money is neutral, amoral. It does not take sides. It simply is.
  4. Gives you options. Without money, your options are limited. It enables me to go to a private hospital and not the crowded government funded ones. I am able to take a coach instead of "every man's bus. When I get more, I will fly to Johanesburg and not take the coach. When I fly, it's two hours as opposed to the two days by road. Money enables me to buy an electronic Bible and not the leather bound covered one.
  5. Medium of Exchange. Yes, money is just a tool we use to exchange goods and services we consider to be of value. Without money, I would have to pay an equivalent of $1,000 for my monthly rent in another item of value. I could give my landlord  a second hand used car only to learn that what he wanted at the time was three cows as he prepares for his daughter's wedding. Money levels that playing field. It is a medium of exchange.

Money, Money, Money

Okay, money is a vast subject and rightly so, there are so many facets to this important subject that we need to take a surgical look into it. Everything around us relates to this.

The first thing I would like us to focus on is this simple question we all need to sleep on tonight...or several nights actually. You will be amazed what you will discover about yourself. Take your time. Come up with as many answers as you can. Ready? The question is: "What is money?"

Sounds simple right? But really, ask yourself the question several times over and find out what you have in your subconcious about it. It will surprise you how much of it is accurate depending on where you have been. More on this later.

That's enough for now.

Towards a greater networth.

Heat Rash or Pneumonia? Take Your Pick

This morning I was reminded of what my mother said a few months after our first son was born. It was in June (pretty cold in my part of the world) but this day it was rather warm...at least we thought so. We did not have the baby in the kind of warm clothing she felt he needed.

Mum proceeded to pad him up real good. My wife and I protested and Mama simply made a statement that has stuck to this day "It's easier to deal with heat rash than pneumonia." You know, a year later, that boy had pneumonia and we almost lost him!

I now remember why I was reminded of that: mum is visiting from tomorrow and I was holding our second son...it's been pretty cold.....

Get Wealthy or Die Trying

I know it sounds like the movie. Well, I took the title from the movie. I am talking about 7th June, 2009. Blantyre, Malawi. I was involved in a seminar called Money 101 for three days. Three days of a painfully honest and grilling but helpful look at money.

I made a commitment to earning not less than MK1,000,000 (US$7,042.25) per month by December 2009. The bad news is that I have missed that goal...twice. The good news is, I am developing the knowledge, skills and network to get myself there.

There were 15 of us in that seminar. A few weeks later, one of us made MK110,000 from thin air (he had to work for it though). We came from various places. My most overiding motivation came from the saying the facilitator said some time before that seminar: "Sunga, your poverty benefits noone, your wealth benefits a lot of people".

I have seen this guy move from being over $40,000 in debt to living debt free and comfortable within a few years. Head over to http://www.dhi.mw and see what he has. You can email him and tell him I sent you there. With the proper arrangements, this guy will go anywhere in the world to teach you what he has. He has that kind of passion. I have watched him since 1991.

Look out for more posts on the subject.
