Just got back from the clinic with my son who has had this really bad flu. The doctor recommended that he should check for malaria and so off we went to the lab. I had a battle of sorts while waiting our turn at the lab. My son didn't want that prick of the needle. I don't blame him, it hurts. So we went on for a bit about why he needed to have it but that boy wasn't moving. You should have seen his small tight fists.
In the end I explained to him that this is pain that I had to let him go through for his own good. When he gets the prick, then they can confirm or rule out malaria and that determines course of action which saves his life. He agreed.
Parenting isn't for cowards. Be brave and tell the children the truth about why you allow some pain in their lives.
