True story.
Two days ago I picked up my two kids from school and I ran through a red light. My daughter quickly pointed out that "It was red daddy, why did you go because red means stop?" Frankly, I was floored and did not answer immediately.
Five eternity seconds later I simply said, "Daddy was disobedient Tami and he I am sorry for not being a good example." My first son joins the conversation at this point as says "Daddy, it is good that you said you are sorry for being disobedient, just like you teach us."
My woes don't end there though. Fast forward some six hours later after dinner and Tami has to pray for the night. The prayer includes this phrase "...and Jesus forgive Daddy for not stopping when the light was red..." That's how my wife got to know about it! Not that I was hidding it but anyway, that is how she got to know about it.
Be careful what you teach your children by example
I could hear my wife containing her laughter even before Tami said her "Amen". I don't blame her.

Daddy Can We Have Fun?
Just yesterday my son came into the room I call office, at home. "Dad, I know you have to work so that we get money and buy things. But when you are through, can we have some fun? We can play games."
Okay, the boy is 7 and his idea of fun and games are at his level. The tension is this: I need to work in order to earn money but he will only be 7 this once. My decision? I halted the work and played him to sleep (he enjoyed it). Then I picked up on my work and completed it. Hopefully I will earn some money from it.
Moral of the story: have time to play with your kids (no matter how old). They will only be that age once.
ciao

Kids Want Parents To Parent
Just the other day my son Linga told me that he loves me (applause) and I was feeling all warm and fuzzy. The next line kind of brought be back to earth "But I don't like it when you punish me...but it's good for me".
Okay, let's think about that for a moment. The Bible says that nobody being punished actually enjoys it (my paraphrase) but it is good and that is why God, as a loving Father punishes his children. I remember one day my dad punished me with his belt for fighting with my sister. He was a quiet man of sorts but he had to. Today, years after his death, I see the good in it. "But I don't like it when you punish me"
I like to observe parents and their children. Most of us lose the "tantrum battles" and the pattern is set...the kids grow up into 'spoilt brats' who will throw tantrums to get things their way. You can tell when an adult is throwing a tantrum.
Will the real parents please parent? They may thank you later. Linga is already doing it at 7 thank God!
